I bought him from friends whose program is simply amazing (Pipestone Paints). Harley is the full brother to our mare PPEmerald Chip so we had a good idea the caliber of horse we would be buying. Harley was purchased with the specific goal of returning to Alberta to take part in the Alberta 50/50 futurity. Our hopes were almost dashed when he fractured his hip January of his yearling year by trying to jump out of an icy corral and falling on the other side. We had a long recovery period in which the vets said if he doesnt get up on his own or quits eating you better put him down. We did daily therapy with him and with pain meds and antacids kept him comfortable and eating...slowly and amazingly he gained strength and our hopes soared! He was able to do some longeline towards the later part of his yearling year and received some longeline and halter points with the APHA. Lisa trained him and showed him in a few open shows during the year then we sent him to a trainer for a little over a month to put polish on for the 50/50 futurity and the Breeders Stakes. Harley did amazing for having been injured and having such a brief time with a pro trainer (sisters Natalie and Wendy Weichel). He took 4th in the 50/50 and 3rd in the Breeders Stakes. For Erica's 21 birthday we gave her Harley. She showed Harley the summer of 2008 and I cant even list all the high points that team received! We are so very proud of both of them.
